The communicative skills for this lesson include the following:
- Inviting:
Pozivam te/Vas na [noun phrase, Accusative] Pozivam te/Vas na ručak. 'I am inviting you for a lunch'; Želiš li/Želite li [noun phrase] Želiš li/Želite li sok. 'Would you like some juice';
Accepting: Sa zadovoljstvom! 'With pleasure', Rado! 'Gladly', Da, hvala. 'Yes, thanks.'
Declining: Ne, hvala. 'No, thanks', Nažalost, ne mogu! 'Unfortunately, I cannot'.
- Thanking Hvala. 'Thank you', To je l(ij)epo od tebe/od Vas! 'That is very nice of you' Puno hvala! 'Many thanks', Mnogo ti/Vam hvala! 'Thank you very much'.
Responding to thanking: Molim. 'You are welcome', Nema na čemu. 'Nothing to thank for'.
- Expressing liking and disliking 2 (some patterns are discussed in Lesson Four):
Liking: Sviđa/Dopada [pronoun/noun, Dative] se [noun phrase]. Sviđa mi se taj kaput. 'I like that coat', Dopada nam se ova profesorica. 'We like this professor'.
Disliking: Ne sviđa/dopada [pronoun/noun, Dative] se [noun phrase] Ne sviđa mi se taj kaput. 'I do not like that coat', Ne dopada nam se ova profesorica. 'We do not like this professor'.
- Relating about past events: [Past Tense] Marko je gledao film. 'Marko saw the movie'; [Past Tense] da [Past Tense] Petar mi je rekao da je Marko gledao film. 'Peter told me that Marko had seen the movie'; Čuo sam/čitao sam da je Marko gledao film. 'I heard/read that Marko had seen the movie' (note that Serbo-Croatian does not have sequence of tenses).
